You can now watch horse racing live from UK, Irish, Australian, Canadian & US race courses on the your iPhone and iPad for FREE.  A number of websites now offer free live streams of many subscription TV horse racing channels such as Racing UK.

You can now watch every race from the following UK horse racing courses - Aintree, Ayr, Bangor, Beverley, Carlisle, Cartmel, Catterick Bridge, Cheltenham, Chester, Epsom Downs, Goodwood, Hamilton Park, Haydock Park, Huntingdon, Kempton Park, Ludlow, Market Rasen, Musselburgh, Newbury, Newmarket, Nottingham, Pontefract, Redcar, Salisbury, Sandown Park, Thirsk, Warwick, Wetherby, Wincanton and York.

Most PC's and Macs support Flash so the live stream should play on those without any problems once you’ve got past the pop-up ads.  However, since the iPhone does not currently support Flash, you will need to use the following workaround before you can watch live racing on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

To easiest way to play Flash videos on the iPhone or iPad is to use a handy app called Skyfire that can be downloaded from the Apple App store for just $2.99 / £1.79 / €2.39 - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skyfire-web-browser/id384941497

The Skyfire web browser converts Flash videos into an iPhone friendly format making it possible to watch videos and live streams that would otherwise not work on the iPhone or iPad.

We all know there are plenty of iPhone apps out there like WatchESPN and Sky Mobile TV that let you watch football, baseball, cricket and any other sports live providing you are willing to pay 100's of £ $ or € on a yearly subscription.  But can we watch sports live on our iPhones for free?  The answer is YES WE CAN.

So how do I watch my favourite team play live on my iPhone?  The biggest obstacle to watcing live sports on the iPhone is its lack of Flash support, so the first thing you need to do is download the Skyfire browser app from the App Store.  The beauty of the Skyfire app is that it allows you to view Flash videos on your iPhone.  It currently costs $2.99 / £1.79 / €2.39 but is well worth the investment.  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skyfire-web-browser/id384941497

OK, once you’ve installed the Skyfire browser on your iPhone, here’s what you do.

  1. Launch the Skyfire browser app (It's basically just a browser like Safari, IE, Firefox, Chrome or any other)

  2. Using the Skyfire browser, visit any of the websites that offer free live streams of sporting events.  For example, try http://www.fromsportcom.com/

  3. Now from the list of available sports streams, select the one you want to watch.  If the page contains a flash video you will notice that the Skyfire browser opens a smaller window on the bottom of your screen with a play button.  Select the play button.

  4. The Skyfire browser will now attempt to convert the Flash video into a format that the iPhone can play (it converst to HTML5 for any geeks who are curious).  You may get the following message “Optimizing the video for your device and connection speed” while the video converts and buffers for your device.

  5. After about 10 - 20 seconds the video should begin playing.  Now just sit back and watch your favourite team play for FREE (hopefully!)

For those of you who are maybe a little confused about what Skyfire is or how to use it, I've included a YouTube video demonstration below that may explain thing a little better.  I've also included a list of other free sports stream websites at the bottom of the page.
