The NFL season kicked off again this week, right on schedule, despite a lockout that lasted 6 months and wasn't resolved until the last week of July.  The big question on everyone’s lips is, can the reigning champions the Green Bay Packers hold onto their title and will the lockout level the playing field.

As usual, this year’s National Football Leagues games will be broadcast on the following 5 U.S. television networks - Fox, CBS, ESPN, NBC, and the NFL Network.  If you are not based in the United States or you can’t get to a TV, you can still watch all the games live on your iPhone or iPad for FREE.

The biggest obstacle to watching Football games (or any sport) on the iPhone or iPad is the lack of Flash support.  Most streaming services require require Flash, but unfortunately Apple have so far refused to allow Flash players on the iPhone and iPad.

Thankfully there are apps available that will convert these Flash videos into a format the iPad and iPhone can play.  We could recommend the Skyfire Browser app  ( http://www.skyfire.com/product/iphone ) which can be downloaded from the App Store http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skyfire-web-browser/id384941497  .  It costs $2.99 but it’s worth every cent because it allows you to watch Flash videos on your iPhone / iPad.  It’s just another browser like Internet Explorer or Safari.  There is a Skyfire video demo at the bottom of the page

How To Watch NFL Games on the iPhone & iPad
  1. Launch the Skyfire app once it’s installed and browse to any of the free sports streaming websites, such as http://www.firstrowsports.eu/sport/american-football.html  We’ve added a list of other free streaming services at the bottom of the page.

  2. Select whichever game or network you would like to watch.  The Skyfire browser should automatically open a preview window at the bottom of the screen.  Select the "Play" button on this preview window.

  3. Skyfire will now begin to convert the video and the NFL game should begin to stream to your iPhone or iPad within 30 seconds.  Sometimes a pop-up ad blocks the screen but these disapper after a short period.
