William Hill posted some spectacular half year results today thanks largely to innovations in mobile gambling technology.  The online betting giants have reported a profit of £127 million for the first half of 2011, compared to just £103 million for the same period last year.  This represents a 23% increase in profits, which is quiet astonishing during a recessionary period. 

William Hill attributes the strong results to their heavy investment in mobile gambling apps.  William Hill CEO, Ralph Topping, revealed that their mobile betting division grew by 600% to almost £4 million.  Mobile sports betting now accounts for 7% of the total online sportsbook revenue.

Topping attributes William Hill’s unique partnership with The Racing Post as one of the reasons for the popularity of the William Hill sports betting operation.  The Racing Post is the world’s most popular iPhone horse racing app and William Hill players can place bets on any horse race from The Racing Post iPhone app.

William Hill also announced they plan to release more mobile betting and gaming apps in the second half of 2011.  William Hill currently offer 3 mobile betting apps for the iPhone: William Hill Casino, William Hill Sportsbook and William Hill Shake-A-Bet.
