Streaming live sporting events is one of the top priorities on mobile devices for sports fans and sports bettors alike. Going hand in hand with that priority is the priority to avoid exceeding data limits with their mobile carriers while streaming those sporting events. That is why it is important to find opportunities to stream live sports without your data being impacted, something that Telstra is making possible for its customers with an update to their live streaming app.

Through three separate apps, Telstra is offering data-free live streaming of AFL Football, NRL Rugby, and netball to its mobile customers. These capabilities are available to all of Telstra's mobile clientele, regardless of the package they use. This is a great value for all Telstra customers, but even more so for those who have a more basic mobile plan but can still reap these benefits.
The AFL Live Official App will give Aussie sports bettors data-free live streams of both men's and women's AFL contests, as the women's AFL has been popular since its recent inception. The NRL Official App will provide every NRL game this season data-free, and the Netball Live Official App will provide data-free streams for the Suncorp Super Netball League and Australian Diamonds games as well.
Telstra's AFL app also offers fans replays of matches dating back to seven years ago, along with live stats and visualizations. Their NRL app offers match replays dating back to 2013, as well as in-game highlights while matches are in progress, press conferences, and more. Netball Live also offers live stats and video highlights. These features would cost around $200 if Telstra customers had to pay for them, in addition to the data costs associated with streaming live matches. Instead, Telstra will foot the bill for its mobile customers.
Both the AFL and NRL apps will be branched off into team-specific apps, which will carry many of the same features as the full league apps, only with information specific to those clubs. That way, if you only want information on how the Fremantle Dockers can rebound from last year's disaster of a campaign, you can do so without having to read with jealousy about the more successful teams in the AFL. With that said, the AFL Live and NRL Official apps will still be needed for users to stream matches live.
Early returns on these decisions have been positive, according to Telstra. They reported that over 2 million minutes of live streaming was done during an early season AFL women's fixture, proof that their customers are taking advantage of the value being presented to them. Telstra also noted an increase of over 350% in terms of app redemptions. As the AFL regular season gets set to begin, one would anticipate that those streaming numbers will only continue to climb as the most popular version of the sport gets set to ball-up again.
The AFL Live Official App, NRL Official App, and Netball Live App are all available on both iOS and Android devices.
